David Gillick joins BaxterStorey as Lifestyle Coach

BaxterStorey are delighted to welcome David Gillick as their Lifestyle Coach.

David Gillick is an Olympian, two-time European champion and one of Ireland’s most successful sprinters of all time. He joins the BaxterStorey team to support their Health and Wellbeing initiatives across the business, giving helpful tips and advice on leading a balanced lifestyle through four key pillars – mindset, nutrition, exercise and rest and recovery.

David was involved in every type of sport from a young age and when it came to choosing a focus, he decided athletics was the route for him. In 2005, he began training as a full time athlete and won the 400m European Indoor Championships the same year and again in 2007. Food was always a huge aspect of David’s career, planning all his meals around healthy and nutritious guidelines to give him the tools he needed to succeed in sport. Food was fuel.

In 2008 he became an Olympian but was struck down by a virus prior to the Games.  Typical of David’s mental strength and determination he didn’t let it deter him and in 2009 he came back stronger with an incredible 6th place finish in the Berlin World Championships.

In the summer of 2013, David went from the track to the kitchen. Competing in RTE’s Celebrity Masterchef, David’s interest and knowledge in food came to the fore and he went on to beat seven other well-known Irish faces to become the inaugural winner of Celebrity MasterChef Ireland.  Following this success, David put pen to paper in 2015 and wrote his own bestselling Cook Book “David Gillick’s Kitchen – Good food from the track to the table”.

The transition from sport is one of the biggest challenges David continues to face, and through his openness and honesty on the issues of depression, anxiety and the struggle with his sporting identity he publicly highlights the importance of mental wellbeing and a balanced lifestyle incorporating a healthy diet and regular exercise. Spending time in various BaxterStorey locations, David will be cooking up his recipes with the chefs in the kitchen, running fitness classes and holding talks. He will also demo exclusive recipes and write a regular blog sharing tips on his approach to wellbeing.

David is currently working on a new book which will be out later this year and BaxterStorey are thrilled to have exclusive access to his new recipes prior to the launch so look out for them on our social media and Recipe blog.
